Touched by tragedy

A Florida family struggles daily with grief from losing their four-year old daughter to malaria in a situation that w as preventable and one that should  never have happened.

The father of Ashley Strauss, Claude Strauss, posted the following on Facebook expressing his frustration with ‘the system’ and ‘lack of cooperation, accountability and oversight of the public health system‘.

Ashley Strauss from her father Claude Strauss’s album, Angel Ashley. She is true to her father’s title, an angel.

If only those responsible for our Ashley’s health could have given Ashley the help they were trained and paid to do Ashley would be here with her new little brother, that she wanted so much. She deserved much better on this earth, but now in a special place in heaven with her Lord God and all his blessings.

The government can get away with not giving our 4-year-old proper medication resulting in her death and not be held accountable, then take our babies body and not tell us where it is cutting it up and hiding the results.  Anyone who thinks our government’s health care system and justice system is OK are crazy.  They are killing our innocent ones and then mutilating their bodies for their own purposes.

Our Ashley has now been dead for over a year and half and we still don’t have the report from the CDC even after we filed a request under the freedom of information act.. They are hiding the facts leading up to our daughter’s death..

    • Claude, keep the faith, and keep the pressure on. Several others are working with us on these situations. I know that is not much satisfaction now, but please know you are always in my prayers and planning for a solution.

              Humanity is an interesting thing.

In the case of Ashley Strass’ death, we have been surrounded by so much love and compassion. Our neighbors, friends, relatives, strangers, people in restaurants and stores who knew our Ashley, a doctor in the airport putting life back in her body, employees from the airlines Ashley was flying on comforting Ashley and her mom, the federal officers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention working so hard to support our family. We have been so blessed to have so many concerned.

Now comes all those professionals who had the opportunity to protect or save Ashley’s life. Not one of them has ever shown our family any compassion. They all try to withhold information, cover up, make excuses or just plain refuse to talk to us. We will not let our little angel be treated as a piece of rotten fruit to be disregarded and forgotten.

Ashley had such a great life and future ahead of her, and so many dreams of what the future would bring. We as a people must stop making excuses for those who failed our little angel and stand up for her because she cannot speak for herself.

There are two stories here: One is our little girl’s tragic death, and the other the defective and broken medical system that almost also took Ashley’s mom and unborn little brother. We must as a community work together to put accountability back in this system along with responsibility. We cannot let Ashley’s death have no purpose. Let’s rally around this little girl’s tragedy to correct a broken health care system so it doesn’t fail another mother, father, brothers and sisters.

I also must thank the Citrus County Chronicle for telling Ashley’s story. They did a wonderful job.

              • Thank you Claude for sharing Ashley’s story. The more people that read the travesty your family suffered, the more opportunity that will open for an oversight board.

My best wishes to you and your family during this hardest of all seasons for the loss of a child. God bless each of you and loving wishes for a good Christmas.

The Citrus County Health Department of Florida is responsible for our daughters death. Stay away from this health department they don’t follow the federal CDC policy
