The duties are the responsibility of a justice of the peace.
That may explain some of the problems with the sentence of an innocent man to 25 years (Michael Morton) for the murder of his wife, when he was actually innocent. The prosecutor was disbarred and sentenced to 10 days for suppressing information that could have prevented this travesty of justice.
